Press Release

Gregory A. Buford, MD, FACS, PCEO Releases New Book: “Eat, Drink, Heal: The Art and Science of Surgical Nutrition”

Dr. Buford offers a detailed view of healthy eating, supplements, and lifestyle changes for optimal healing after surgery

Denver, CO, November 15, 2016—Board certified plastic surgeon Gregory A. Buford, MD, FACS, PCEO is proud to announce the release of his latest book, Eat, Drink, Heal—and it’s not your typical diet book. With contributions from certified nutritionist John Friedstein, Eat, Drink, Heal offers up specific plans so patients can make smart nutritional decisions to optimize healing after surgery. Highlights include “Hacking Your Healing: Optimizing the Mind-Body Connection“ and detailed instructions on choosing the right macronutrients, micronutrients, and supplements to support your system both before and after surgery.

Eat, Drink, Heal is a valuable resource for anyone undergoing elective or non-elective surgery. In fact, the book helps fill a critical gap in patient education: despite the proven impact of a healthy diet on the human body under normal conditions, doctors often treats patients without consideration for nutrition’s impact on patient health and outcomes.

“As a surgeon and strong believer in the power of healthy food, I have always been surprised about the lack of education within the medical profession about how food can help—or hinder—the healing process,” Dr. Buford explains. “Quite simply, we can do better. By recognizing the value of good nutrition both before and after surgery, we can provide better results to our patients.”

Dr. Buford hopes to change how patients think about preparing for and healing from surgery. “Readers, instead of feeling everything is out of their control when it comes to surgery, will come away knowing they have the power to maximize the benefits of medical procedures,” states Dr. Buford. “In addition to all the plans and recipes, I list specific labs that should be drawn before surgery—essential information for any patient wanting an optimal outcome. In short, this book should be used by anyone who is either scheduled for or considering any surgical procedure.”

Eat, Drink, Heal is available for purchase through Amazon and includes easy-to-follow supplementation plans, vitamin-packed recipes, and expert guidance for patients who want to be proactive in their health and healing.

Dr. Buford is kicking off the official launch of the book with a day of charitable giving. All profits from book sales on November 15, 2016 will be donated to the Ron Finley project in east Los Angeles. “The Ron Finley ‘guerilla gardening’ project is a powerful, community-based initiative centered around urban gardening and nutritional education,” Dr. Buford says. “If you haven’t heard about what Ron is doing, I strongly encourage you to learn more. I’m honored to support this dynamic non-profit that is taking action to transform food deserts into food forests.”
