Non-Surgical Skin Tightening

Thanks to technological advancements, the availability of injectable treatments, and even higher-quality makeup, we no longer have to rely on our genes (and a dose of luck) to age gracefully. Renuvion is a non-surgical skin tightening procedure that uses the power of radiofrequency and helium plasma.

The rise of truly effective non-surgical treatments means we have more options than ever to treat early signs of aging and prolong a visit to the operating room. Lone Tree board-certified plastic surgeon Gregory A. Buford, MD, FACS, PCEO is well-known in the Denver area for using a combination of surgery, minimally invasive technologies, and micro-treatments to provide patients with a more youthful, natural look—and he's excited to add another state-of-the-art tool to his offerings:

Renuvion skin tightening. As a Certified National Trainer for Renuvion, Dr. Buford looks forward to providing his patients with a safe, proven option.

How Does Renuvion Skin Tightening Work?

The Renuvion device uses a combination of energy-based technologies to tighten your skin, shrink fatty tissue under the skin, and trigger tissue contraction: radiofrequency (RF) and helium plasma.

RF is a common technology used in non-surgical skin tightening treatments because of its ability to heat tissues deep beneath the skin's surface and prompt your body's production of collagen, which helps firm and smooth the skin.

Helium plasma, which is helium gas that has been electrically charged to convert to plasma, is temperature stable and helps rapidly cool the treated tissues while maintaining a cool temperature in surrounding areas—heating and cooling back to baseline occurs in less than .75 seconds.

Combining these two technologies allows us to safely heat tissues to a much higher temperature than other RF devices, which means we can treat more significant skin sagging while keeping both treatment time and your downtime to a minimum.

This gives Dr. Buford the control to effectively and efficiently target tissues without worry of overheating or damaging the surrounding areas.

What Areas Can Renuvion Treat?

Dr. Buford uses Renuvion with almost every liposuction case for optimal skin tightening and retraction. This takes your liposuction results to the next level than with conventional liposuction alone.

Renuvion can be used virtually anywhere on the body to tighten loose or crepey skin, smooth small bulges, and provide a firmer appearance, including:

  • Around the eyes and brow
  • Lower cheeks (jowls) and jawline
  • Neck and chin
  • Chest
  • Abdomen
  • Arms ("bat wings")
  • Back
  • Breasts
  • Thighs

What Is Treatment Like?

Depending on your personal threshold, what area of the body you are having treated, and Dr. Buford's recommendation, your Renuvion treatment may be performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation to ensure your comfort. While Renuvion is a minimally invasive treatment, it does require Dr. Buford to make one or two very small incisions so the Renuvion probe can properly target tissues beneath the surface of the skin.

Your treatment will be performed either in-office or in our accredited operating room, depending on how many areas you are having treated and whether or not Dr. Buford employs accompanying liposuction techniques to enhance your results. Dr. Buford will discuss your options with you during your initial consultation.

Does Renuvion Hurt?

The probe emits RF energy to heat tissues while the helium plasma instantly cools. During your treatment, Dr. Buford will have complete control over the temperature and timing of the device to ensure safe, accurate treatment.

You'll be able to return home after the procedure with a small bandage over the incision site. Depending on the areas treated, you may also be required to wear a compression garment. Most people are able to return to desk work the next day, though you may be a bit tender, red, and swollen for a few days. These side effects are typically mild and short-lived.

Renuvion With ProNox®

We use ProNox® to ensure your ultimate comfort during your in-office Renuvion treatment. ProNox is an innovative pain management system that uses a 50/50 combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen to minimize discomfort. Nitrous oxide is one of the oldest and safest forms of sedation; it calms the central nervous system to help make your procedure even more comfortable.

ProNox is patient-controlled, meaning that you simply breathe through the mouthpiece whenever you feel that you need it. The pain-reducing effects are immediate, and the gas will be completely out of your system within a few minutes, which allows you to return to your normal activities without lingering side effects.

How Long Do Renuvion Results Last?

This can vary from patient to patient and can be impacted by your natural aging process and genetics, the natural quality of your skin, and whether or not you employ an at-home skincare routine to support skin health and collagen production.

Some patients report that their results last for years, though it's important to remember that we cannot halt the aging process—and we recommend maintenance treatments to ensure a beautiful result for years to come.
